Lead Field Scientist

Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Lead Environmental Scientist with 5+ years of experience in environmental restoration projects, preferably for United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), or other federal and state government agencies. Prospective candidates must be able to work independently, have experience with site investigation, characterization, and remediation projects regulated by ADEC and/or EPA. The work will include a combination of office and field work.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with the project manager in developing work plans and schedules
• Collaborates with the site Superintendent to execute approved work plans
• Serves as leader of the field environmental scientists and other technical staff in data collection, site investigation, evaluation of data collected, and remediation activities to support project objectives.
• Conducts site reconnaissance, including sampling activities
• Conducts field surveys using Trimble and Rover or equivalent
• GIS – can run or input data into a geodatabase and utilize GIS in the office and the field
• Prepare deliverables with quality supporting documentation (site figures, appendices)

Required Skills:
• Must have experience in environmental fieldwork in remote Alaska including excavation work
• Must have good communication skills
• Must be proficient with Microsoft office products.
• Must be highly organized.

Education & Certifications:
• BS or BA in a science or engineering field.
• Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Qualified Sampler
Position requirements:
• Must have or be willing to obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification and/or 8-hour refresher as appropriate
• Must take a HAZWOPER physical and obtain the physicians approval to perform the work
• Pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen
• Pre-employment criminal background history check

Preferred (but not required):

Physical Demands:
Works inside and outside. Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Can work effectively and safely in cold conditions. Can wear a respirator.
