May 6, 2021, Anchorage, AK- The CARES Act provided a special set aside for fisheries. The state of Alaska’s plan has been approved and they are now accepting applications for relief. The state set aside a portion of the funds to provide assistance to subsistence users. This means that anyone in the state whose subsistence practices were impacted by COVID-19 last year can apply to receive some funds under the CARES Act. This may help shareholders receive some support for their interrupted subsistence last year.
The fund is administered by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Council. Applications may be mailed or uploaded to the PSMFC site. The required documents are the application and a W-9 form. The deadline for subsistence user applications is May 21 if mailed or May 28 if uploaded. CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR CARES ACT FISHERIES ASSISTANCE.
